Why Malaysian Adverts Suck

Ok...the title for this post would probably give a vague impression of what I'm gonna say. Now, being stuck at home for two solid months has its advantages...I finally get the opportunity to sit in front of the TV while munching some snacks (ok...ok..lots of snacks...I admit!!) and getting to know every nooks and crannies of my Astro remote control.

Now, I have to say something here..Before my realization of this harrowing truth, my family had always watched programs on the satellite dish thingy they call PARABOLA. Nevertheless, we soon got fed-up with the too-international-contents that we are hardly realizing the recent happenings in Malaysia, like the fact that Datuk Seri Najib is the new Prime Minister. ( maybe it's just me...because I always have a poor affinity with politics)

So, with an Astro subscription, I am all too eager to flip through the channels and see the changes that SHOULD have taken place on Malaysia TV programs. And alas! To my dismay...I would confidently say that our adverts and programs are on par with Indonesian TV program standards. I still remember the PARABOLA days when we would criticize Indonesian channels to our hearts' content. The actors, props, messages, contents are...what should I say...IMMENSELY TERRIBLE. Maybe you can browse them on Youtube to see for yourselves...

Wanna know how crappy Malaysian adverts are? Here's an example...

1. Message: That Astro Educational Channels are beneficial:

 - The ad starts with a boy saying he wants to be a pilot coz he saw a big jet on Discovery Channel (this part is still bearable)

- Then, observe how a little boy testifying that his English grades have improved...to prove it...he said "How are you?" and "Thank you".. (Wow! Knowing these two phrases means you're proficient in English!! CRAPPY)

Or another:

A lady leisurely driving a BMW convertible on a countryside...At first, I thought it was a BMW ad or something..but it later turned out to be a CELCOM advert...How crappy is that?

To tell the truth, the adverts are a shame...We have those sophisticated communication towers and satellites..and that's the best we can produce?
